What HD Channels Does DIRECTV carry?

We have three types of HD channels:

  • HD versions of existing SD (Standard Definition) channels, located on the same channel as the SD version.
Both HD and SD versions of the channel will be listed in the program guide. For HR2x receivers, the HD version is listed first. For example, if you tune to 362 (The Weather Channel) in the guide, you'll see 2 listings, the upper in HD and the lower in SD. Typing 3-6-2-ENTER will automatically tune to the HD version. On H2x receivers, the SD version is listed first, so if you tune to 362, you will need to channel up to get to the HD version. For all other receivers, only the SD version will be visible.
  • HD channels similar, but not exactly the same, as existing SD channels. These are usually located near the SD channel in the guide. In some cases, these similar HD channels will be put on "sub-channels" like 231-1. In this case, the HD channel will be listed in numerical order (231-1 follows 231) and direct tuning via remote control will require using the "dash" key in the lower left corner before entering the sub-channel number.
  • New HD channels, such as Smithsonian Channel HD (ch. 267), MHD (ch. 332), Starz Kids & Family HD (ch. 518) and Starz Comedy HD (ch. 519), are given their own channel number.
