How to watch LIVE TV on your tablet or mobile device

To watch live TV channels on your tablet or mobile device, you need an HD DVR connected to your home broadband network. Your device must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your HD DVR.

First, install the FREE DIRECTV App, from the App Store, if you haven't already done so. And then proceed with the steps below to start watching live TV on your tablet or mobile device:

Step 1

Within your home Wi-Fi network, launch the DIRECTV App and tap Watch on iPad or Watch on iPhone.

Step 2

Look for the location name of your HD DVR receiver on the bottom left corner of the screen. If you see the location name of your HD DVR receiver, proceed to Step 3. If you see "No Receiver," go to Settings by tapping the gear icon on the top right corner of the screen. Follow the instructions in Receiver Control to link your iPad to the HD DVR that’s connected to your home network.

Step 3

Tap on Watch on iPad at the bottom of the screen.

Step 4

Tap Live TV near the top of the next screen.

Step 5

You’ll see the channels available for viewing and the shows currently playing. Tap any one of them to start viewing. Channels with a green On the Go icon are also available for Live Streaming outside your home.
