Cookies, cache, and more

Cookies 101
In a nutshell, a cookie is a small file used to keep track of you and your preferences during a Web visit. The server that hosts the website you are visiting sends a cookie to your browser. In our case, we use cookies to provide you with a customized Web experience with your name, local weather, and your saved site settings.

Nowadays, most browsers accept cookies by default. You may visit your browser’s support site (see below) to verify, but the option to turn cookies on is most commonly found under the Preferences or Internet Options menu.

Clear cookies

While cookies and cache help make your Web surfing experience a little better and quicker, sometimes they also bog things down. One of the most common ways to freshen up your browser is by clearing the browsing data, such as cookies, cache, and history.

Here’s how it’s done:

PC (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
1. Launch your Web browser.
2. Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete.
3. Select the items you’d like to clear from the browsing history menu.
4. Select the Delete or Clear button, depending on your browser type.
5. Quit and re-start your browser.

Mac (Chrome, Firefox)
1. Launch your Web browser.
2. Press Command+Shift+Delete.
3. Select the items you’d like to clear from the browsing history menu.
4. Select the Delete or Clear button, depending on your browser type.
5. Quit and re-start your browser.

Mac (Safari)
1. Launch your Web browser.
2. Click Safari in the top left corner next to the Apple icon.
3. Select Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data.
4. Select the items you’d like to clear from the browsing history menu.
5. Select the Remove or Remove All button, depending on your selection.
6. Quit and re-start your browser.

iOS (Safari)
1. Go to Settings.
2. Find and click Safari.
3. Select Clear Cookies and Data.
4. A pop up will appear to verify your selection. Select Clear.
5. The Clear Cookies and Data button will turn grey.

iOS (Chrome)
1. Launch your Web browser.
2. Click the Menu toolbar on the top right corner.
3. Select Settings > Advanced > Privacy.
4. Select Clear Browsing Data.
5. You can then select Browsing History, Cookies and Site Data, or Cached Images and Files.
6. Once you’ve chosen the settings you want to clear, select Clear Browsing Data.
