Connect DIRECTV Plus® HD DVR to Wi-Fi with DIRECTV Cinema Connection Kit

By connecting your DIRECTV Plus® HD DVR to the Internet, you get instant access to thousands of shows and movies On Demand, Pandora on your TV, and interactive TV apps.

Before proceeding with the steps to connect your receiver to your home Wi-Fi network with the Cinema Connection Kit (Wireless), make sure you have the equipment pictured below. You'll also need to take a few simple steps to determine what kind of receiver setup you have.

Have all of these items? Proceed with the steps below.

Step 1

You'll need some information about your DIRECTV setup. Go to your HD DVR and press the DASH button on your remote. A message will appear on the bottom right of your TV screen.

If you do NOT see the words "SWiM Connected" in the message that appears on your TV screen, you will need to follow the installation steps for a "Method 1 Setup." Click here to proceed or watch this video demo.

If you do see the words "SWiM Connected," we'll need to find out some more info to determine which installation steps you'll need to follow. Press and hold the INFO button on your remote until the Info & Test screen appears.

  • In the "Receiver" line, if you see "HR24" or a higher model number or "HR34" or a higher model number, you will need to follow the installation steps for a "Method 2 Setup." Click here to proceed or watch this video demo.
  • If you see a lower receiver model number than "HR24," select More System Info, and then scroll down the page until you see "Network" status.
    • If the "Network" status says "Not Connected," you will need to follow the installation steps for a "Method 1 Setup." Click here to proceed or watch this video demo.
    • If the "Network" status says "Connected," you will need to follow the installation steps for a "Method 2 Setup." Click here to proceed or watch this video demo.
