How do I get DIRECTV streaming with GenieGO Out-of-Home Access?

Print

Your GenieGO device lets you stream your recorded shows inside and outside your home over any Wi-Fi network. However, if you want to stream outside your home, you must first enable GenieGO Out-of-Home Access. Here's how:

Step 1

Launch the GenieGO app on your mobile device (or the DIRECTV App if you're using an iPad) and sign in with your directv.com username and password. If you don't have this app installed on your device, download it here.

Step 2

If you're using your phone, go to your Settings menu and select GenieGO Out-of-Home Access. If you're using your iPad, tap the Main Menu and then select Settings > GenieGO > GenieGO Out-of-Home Access > Enable.

Step 3

Select Test Out-of-Home Access.

Step 4

Do you see this message: "Congratulations! You're now set up for GenieGO Out-of-Home Access."? If you do, you're done! You can now stream recorded movies and shows on your mobile device outside your home over any Wi-Fi network.

GenieGO Out-of-Home Access couldn't be enabled because your wireless router is not set up for Port Forwarding (this allows your router to access your GenieGO from outside your home Wi-Fi network). Don't worry, you can use your PC or Mac computer to set it up in just a few easy steps.

Before you proceed, make sure you have the following:

  • GenieGO app installed on your PC or Mac. Click here for instructions on how to download it.
  • Your home Wi-Fi network username and password

Step 1

Launch the GenieGO app on your PC or Mac and sign in with your directv.com username and password.

Step 2

Click the Settings icon.

Step 3

Click GenieGO Out-of-Home Access (or Out of Home if you're using a Mac).

Step 4

Click Start Setup Wizard and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 5

To confirm that GenieGO Out-of-Home Access has been set up properly, launch the GenieGO app on your mobile device (or the DIRECTV App if you're using an iPad). Then go to Settings > GenieGO > GenieGO Out-of-Home Access and tap Test Out-of-Home Access.

Step 6

Do you see this message: "Congratulations! You're now set up for GenieGO Out-of-Home Access."? If you do, you're done! You can now stream recorded movies and shows on your mobile device outside your home over any Wi-Fi network.

If you don't see a "Congratulations" message, please double check that the information you entered in the Setup Wizard is correct and try again. If it still doesn't work, please click the appropriate links below to configure your router(s) manually.

GenieGO Out-of-Home Access still not working?

We can show you how to configure your router(s) manually. If you have only one router, please click the first link below. If you have more than one router for example, a router from your Internet service provider and a wireless router, click the second link.

You'll need a PC or Mac computer to complete the manual router setup. Before you begin, make sure you have the following:

  • Brand and version of your wireless router
  • Admin username and password for your router
  • GenieGO IP address, Ports (TCP) & MAC address. To find this, launch the GenieGO app on your computer, then select System Info from the Help menu (H).

Step 1

Scroll down the page to our Router Setup Tool and select your router brand and model. Then open a new browser window and follow the instructions.

Step 2

You're done!

Please call your Internet service provider. Tell your ISP Customer Service representative that you need to forward the following ports on your router: 8082 and 8083. If you have any gaming devices connected to your router, ask the representative how to open port 8082 or 8083.

You'll need a PC or Mac computer to complete the manual router setup for each router. Before you begin, make sure you have the following information:

  • Brand and version of both routers
  • Admin username and password for each router
  • GenieGO IP address, Ports (TCP) & MAC address. To find this, launch the GenieGO app on your computer, then select System Info from the Help menu (H).

Step 1

First, let's configure the wireless router that's connected to your GenieGO. Scroll down the page to our Router Setup Tool and select your router brand and model. Then open a new browser window and follow the instructions.

Important: Please take note of your wireless router's WAN IP address--you'll need it to configure your primary router later.

Step 2

Now let's configure your primary router. Select your router brand and model in the Router Setup tool below, then open a new browser window and follow the instructions. When you see the GenieGO IP Address field, enter the wireless router's WAN IP address you noted in Step 1.

Step 3

You're done!

Please call your Internet service provider. Tell your ISP Customer Service representative that you have two routers and need to set up one of them as a “bridge.” Also mention that you need to forward the following ports on your router: 8082 and 8083.
