My DIRECTV Universal Remote doesn't respond when I try to change channels or adjust the volume. What can I do?

Follow these simple steps to resolve the problem:
Solution 1: Make sure your remote is in the correct mode
ImageSlide the mode switch at the top of your Universal Remote to DIRECTV.
ImagePress the VOL or CHAN/PAGE button. Make sure the button is not stuck in pressed down position.

Try Solution 2.

Solution 2: Make sure nothing is blocking the receiver's sensor or the remote's emitter
ImageTurn your remote control over. Wipe the upper end with a soft, lint-free cloth.
ImageWipe the front panel of your receiver.
ImagePress the VOL or CHAN/PAGE button on your remote.
Remote still not responding?
Try Solution 3.

Solution 3: Replace the batteries in your remote
ImageTurn your remote control over and remove the battery cover.
ImageInsert two fresh AA batteries and close the battery cover. If possible, use batteries from the same pack.
ImagePush and hold any button. If you see a solid green light at the top of your remote, the batteries are working.
ImagePress the VOL or CHAN/PAGE button on your remote.

Solution 5: Reset your receiver
ImageUnplug your receiver's power cord from the electrical outlet, wait for 15 seconds, and plug it back in.
ImagePress the Power button on the front panel of your receiver. Wait for your receiver to reboot.
