How do I program my DIRECTV remote control?

You can program your DIRECTV Universal Remote to control the following:
  • TV
  • Audio devices (sound bar, surround sound, etc.)
  • Blu-ray player, DVD player, VCR

If you have an HD DVR or HD receiver, follow these steps:

ImagePress MENU on your remote.
ImageSelect Settings & Help.
ImageSelect Settings.
ImageSelect Remote Control.
ImageSelect Program Remote, then select the device you wish to program.
ImageFollow the on-screen prompts to complete programming your remote.

Note: If your remote is not listed, or you need additional codes, use the code lookup tool to find the 5-digit code for your device.

If you have a standard DVR or an SD receiver, follow these steps:

ImagePress MENU on your remote.
ImageSelect Parental Favs & Setup.
ImageSelect System Setup.
ImageSelect Remote or Remote Control.
ImageSelect Program Remote, then select the device you wish to program.
ImageFollow the on-screen prompts to complete programming your remote.

Note: If your remote is not listed, or you need additional codes, use the code lookup tool to find the 5-digit code for your device.
You can program your DIRECTV Genie Remote to control the following:
  • TV
  • DIRECTV Ready television
  • Audio devices (sound bar, surround sound, etc.)

Important: Before your proceed with the steps below, please make sure your Genie Remote is in RF mode. To do this, press and hold the MUTE and ENTER buttons while pointing at your Genie HD DVR, Genie Mini, or Wireless Genie Mini. The screen will display Applying IR/RF setup.

To program your remote to control a regular HDTV (not a DIRECTV Ready TV) or audio devices, follow these steps:

ImagePress MENU on your remote.
ImageSelect Settings & Help.
ImageSelect Settings.
ImageSelect Remote Control.
ImageSelect Program Remote, then select the device you wish to program.
ImageFollow the on-screen prompts to complete programming your remote.

To program your remote to control a DIRECTV Ready TV, follow these steps:

ImageMake sure your DIRECTV Ready TV is on.
ImagePress and hold the MUTE and SELECT buttons until green light at the top of the remote flashes twice.
ImageFor Samsung DIRECTV Ready TVs, enter the following TV code: 54000. For Sony DIRECTV Ready TVs, enter: 54001. For Toshiba DIRECTV Ready TVs, enter: 54002.
