How to Connect DIRECTV Genie® to WiFi


Watch this video to learn how to connect your Genie® HD DVR model HR44 to the Internet. Follow the simple steps for connecting your Genie.

Please note: If your HD DVR used to be connected to the Internet, but it isn't any longer click here to follow instructions on how to reconnect. A minimum connection speed of 750Kbps (DSL or cable modem) is required. 2Mbps or higher is recommended.

First, confirm your Genie model number by pressing and holding the INFO button on your remote until the Info & Test appears on your TV. You’ll see the model number in the “Receiver” line. Make sure the receiver model is HR44. For other HD DVR models, please click here.

There are two ways to connect your Genie HD DVR model HR44 to your home Wi-Fi network. You can connect automatically if your wireless router has Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS), which allows you to connect without entering your Wi-Fi network name and password. Or you can connect manually by entering your Wi-Fi network name and password.

To check if your router has WPS, look for a button with the logo pictured on the right. Click “Yes” or “No” below, and then just follow the simple steps for connecting your Genie.
