How to install GenieGO

Installing the GenieGO device is quick and easy. Before getting started, make sure you have the following:
  • Broadband Internet service
  • A wireless router
  • An HD DVR (model HR20 or higher) or a Genie HD DVR (model HR34 or higher) connected to the Internet.
    To check your model number, press and hold the INFO button on your remote and look for the model number next to "Receiver." To check if you’re connected to the Internet, press the DASH button on your remote. If you see “Internet: Not detected” click here to learn how to connect your HD DVR.
  • A computer, tablet, or smartphone
  • A DIRECTV online account. If you haven't created one, you can create one now.

Have all of these items in place? Now tell us about your GenieGO device. Does your model have one LED light or three LED lights? (See picture.) Select the one you have below:



Press the DASH button on your remote. In the popup message that appears on your screen, do you see “SWiM: Connected” or “SWiM: Not Connected”?



One last question. Do you have a Wireless CINEMA Connection Kit (see picture) connected to your HD DVR?



To set up your GenieGO, follow the steps below or watch this video.

Find the splitter (see picture) included in your GenieGO kit. Make sure all provided cables are tightly fastened to the splitter, as you see in the picture. Connect the cable labeled “GenieGO” to the open port on the back of your GenieGO device.
Disconnect the coaxial cable from the port labeled "Satellite" on the back of your HD DVR.
Attach the coaxial cable to the port labeled “LNB” on the splitter.
Connect the splitter cable labeled “Receiver” to the port labeled “Satellite” on the back of your HD DVR.
Power up the GenieGO by plugging in the power adapter.
The LED light on the GenieGO device will illuminate for as long as 15 minutes. When it turns steady blue, you’re ready to go.

Light still flashing? Press the RESET button on your GenieGO, then wait about 15 minutes. If the light is still flashing, call us at 1-800-531-5000.
Download and install the FREE GenieGO app on your computer or compatible mobile device. The on-screen instructions on the app will show you how to activate GenieGO and start enjoying your recorded shows anywhere.

Connect one end of the Ethernet cable included in your GenieGO kit to the Ethernet port on your GenieGO device and the other end to an available Ethernet port on your wireless router.
Power up the GenieGO by plugging in the power adapter.
The LED light on the GenieGO device will illuminate for as long as 15 minutes. When it turns steady blue, you’re ready to go.

Light still flashing? Press the RESET button on your GenieGO, then wait about 15 minutes. If the light is still flashing call us at 1-800-531-5000.
