To make the best use of your DIRECTV HD DVR receiver, you need to know what each button on your DIRECTV remote does. Here's a quick guide:

  • Pause: Pauses live TV for up to 90 minutes.
  • Play: Resume watching live TV if paused. If you press hold Play, the action moves forward in slow motion.
  • Fast Forward and Rewind: These two buttons come with four different speeds to allow you to move forward or backward in the program you're watching.
  • Replay: Jump back during the program in 6-second increments.
  • Advance: Skip ahead in 30-second increments.
  • Record: Press this button to save a live show to watch later, or go into the program guide and record a future show or series.
