Welcome to our handy interactive Remote Control Comparison Guide! Below you can choose the type of DIRECTV Remote Control you have and compare it, button-for-button, to non-DIRECTV remote control models.





Genie Remote Control

Universal Remote Control

Click any button to see its function.
ON/OFF

Turns the TV, Set-Top Box and other active device(s) on and off.
GUIDE

Displays the Program Guide, where you can scroll up, down and across to see what's on now and in the future.
RECORD

Records the live show you are currently watching, or a program you have highlighted in the guide, search results, or other content location.
ENTER (input)

Cycles through the equipment connected to your TV.
EXIT

Dismisses your current feature or menu, and returns to video.
SEE AHEAD IN TV GUIDE

See what's on up to 14 days in the future.
In video view (TV, On Demand, etc) the same button (Advance) performs the 30-Second Skip (DVRs only), which skips ahead in video with a controlled, high-speed 30-second fast forward. Lets you see everything that's being skipped in case you want to go back and watch something of interest.
MUTE

Mutes the TV's audio. Pressing it when the audio is muted restores the sound.
INFO

Invokes the Channel Banner and Info Screen, which provide a brief description of your current program, as well as instant access to other options and settings.
LIST

Displays the Playlist, which contains your recorded programs.
CH

Scrolls the Program Guide (or other location like Playlist, etc.) up and down, a whole screen/page at a time.
JUMP BACK

Replays the last six seconds of a show (the time interval may vary across providers). For some DVRs, pressing and holding this button jumps back to the beginning of a recorded show.
FORMAT

Change your TV screen format (widescreen, letterbox) and resolutions (1080p, 720i, etc).
select

Selects the item highlighted on the screen.
back

Takes you back to the previous screen.
